Kagiso Trust and Shanduka Foundation have agreed to work together in a programme that aims to improve learner performance in public schools. The collaboration agrees with the view by the National Planning Commission that poor education outcomes and unemployment are the two most important national priorities for eliminating poverty and reducing inequality. Both Kagiso Trust and Shanduka Foundation have substantially contributed to efforts of working together with learners, teachers and parents, in partnership with the Department of Basic Education, in improving poor education outcomes.
In the coming five year horizon (2013/14 – 2017/18) Kagiso Trust -Shanduka Foundation in consultation with the Free State Department of Education, has selected the Fezile Dabi District and Motheo District’s Thaba Nchu and Botshabelo circuits to begin their collaborative venture in improving education. This will allow the programme to:
- Leverage the high level of political buy in and commitment by the Free State provincial and local government
- Sustain the high level of performance achieved in the schools currently supported by both organisations
- Incorporate lessons learnt from previous initiatives to enhance schools within the Fezile Dabi and Motheo districts
